A combination of singing and sightseeing organized especially for the amateur chorister who wants perform sacred music in some of the finest late Gothic and Baroque churches while at the same time experiencing the beauties and magic of Prague and Southern Bohemia.
DATE: WINTER PROGRAM: December 27, 2003 – January 5, 2004 SUMMER PROGRAM: June 27, 2004 – July 10, 2004* *(Part of the International Dvorak Festival celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the composer´s death)
TARGET GROUP: Member of church and community choirs, their families and friends, looking for an aesthetic, fun-filled and affordable holiday in one of the most beautiful countries in Europe.
Musical requirements: There are no auditions. All who register as singers will be members of the choir. However, in order to achieve the musical objectives of the director and to ensure personal satisfaction, those enrolling as singers should be able to read music, have current or recent choral or solo singing experience, and be comfortable singing serious sacred music.
REPERTOIRE: The major works initially selected for both tours are:
Winter: Riba – A christmass Mass Summer: Dvorak – Te Deum Other repertoire may be added to complement these works.
MINIMUM REGISTRATION: 25 Singers for each tour. In order to ensure a good musical balance, competent amateur singers from the Czech Republic and neighboring countries will join the choir and participate fully in the rehearsals and the tour.
Spouses, partners, children and friends are welcome on the tour. However, non-singers must be aware that the tour is built around the rehearsal and performance schedule of the choir. Every effort will be made to plan complementary events for non-singers during the time that the singers are rehearsaling.
CONCEPT: When singers tour, they usually do so as a pre-rehearsed ensemble. However, many singers are in choirs which have neither the organizational resourses nor the financial capability to arrange tours. This program allows that individual singer to make a decision to tour for him or her self. Under this scheme, partcipants arrange and pay for their own transport to and from Prague as they would for any other vacation. They would arrange surface transport to a destignated hotel, in which accommodation has been booked for them to their specifications by the tour organizers. At this point, they become members of a touring musical ensemble, joining other singers from various countries who have the same objective. The music for the tour will have been distributed or acquired i advance. Singers will have been expected to do some home study and preparation prior to starting the trip. For the first 5-6 days of the trip, between 10:00am and 1:00pm, Singers will rehearse the repertoire. Every afternoon and evening, they will sightsee and visit some of the marvelous sights of Prague and Southern Bohemia. (The Winter Tour Program is appended to this information sheet.) During the tour, participants will have a chance to hear many fine free or modestly priced concerts in Prague and other communities.
Once the first performance is given, any additional rehearsals will occur only with the consent of the choir director and the singers. All performancess will be in held in churches and cathedrals. They will be advertised in the local parishes and communities and will raise funds for various church and community programs. The venues and concert dates are guaranteed, the size of audience is not.
